Renowned Jamaican reggae artist, producer, DJ, and writer who introduced reggae music and Rastafarian ideology to Malawi, Bongo Black Jesse Jendah, has passed away.

Jenda rose to prominence through his radio programs, including “Clarity” and “Reggae Jamming,” which were broadcasted on Power FM 101 radio.

Ras Ray Harawa remarked that Jendah’s death is a significant loss, as the musician not only brought the essence of Jamaica to Malawi but also showcased Malawi to the world through his music.

“Despite being born in Jamaica and spending most of his life in America, Malawi held a special place in his heart. He was a cherished part of our Malawian and Rastafarian family,” stated Harawa, who also manages the Black Missionaries Band.

In addition to releasing tracks like “Knight Templar,” “Runaway Slave,” and “Rasta Empress,” Jendah graced prominent stages alongside other distinguished Jamaican reggae artists, including Sizzla Kalonji.
